Cardenales is a rock band which origins started in Lima- Peru. Cardenales as well as many other bands, was born to mirror a reflexion of Peru's depression during the 1980's. The original members were all witness of the decadent country in kaos. Their lyrics talked about social issues such as the suffering and hunger which the goverment policies helped to create. Finishing High School was of no help to move on with their lives. Not even a Bachelor graduated or a professional couldn't find a decent job in those times. Terrorism, social depression and a terrible economic situation motivated bands such as Cardenales to express their disbelieve in the system.

Their first song, "Espiral" (spiral) was recorded in a home made cassette (SANYO). It was inspired by a young girl who made the decision to wear an internal contraceptic in order to avoid getting pregnat while enjoying sex. "Autodisparo" (Auto-shot) This song made consiouness of the social class differences in Peru. The arrogance and corruption that existed in peruvian politicians and the rich elite was the theme of this song. "Sangre y Sufrimiento" ( Blood and Suffering) Perhaps the best of Cardenales. This song still transmits a clear voice that peruvians had towards terrorism, poverty, massacres and corruption in third wold democratic systems.

They made their debut at "La Cabana"  theater in Lima. It was 1987 when these three songs were played for the first time by its original members. In 1988 they were part of the 1st Peruvian Subterranean Music Festival in the popular Feria del Hogar.

Today Cardenales performs a more up bit rythm. Their lyrics are obscure but intesting to the actual generation. The new sound of Cardenales is inspiring and fresh. They don't have to regret anything from the past, they have lot's of talent. The band tours all over Peru and sometimes around Latin America. Cesar Principe is still the lead singer of the group. Cardenales Rocks in every concert they perform and its followers believe, they are the best peruvian band of the last 2 decades.
